My husband and I have been dealing a lot with the Indian consulate at San Francisco recently. Each time, we had a hassle free and quick service.
My husband needed a Renunciation Certificate. We mailed in all the forms and expected a long wait as we\'d been reading about people\'s complaints about this new procedure. To our delight, we got the certificate in less than a week of mailing in the application!! Later my husband mailed in his OCI application and it has just been 2 weeks but already I can see from teh status online that the OCI has been granted and the documents have been dispatched from India. Similar story with my passport renewal. All in a span of 2 weeks.
Government employees and beaureaucrats in India should take a lesson in efficieny adn customer service from the staff at CGISF!

I must congratulate, the Consulate General of India, San Francisco, and its staff, for its efficient and well run organization. This is to put on record, that my experience at Consulate general of India, San Francisco, is worthy of appreciation and praise. Its handling of cases of various natures was totally professional. The helping nature and politeness of every member of the consulate was excellent and admirable. They extended all sorts of help and guidance, as deem fit, in a polite and courteous manner.  Every individual whoever visits the consulate was given appropriate advice and guidance. They handled all the case efficiently and at a faster speed.
Our national passport offices should learn some lesson from CGI, San Francisco, and improve their work culture, attitude and behavior.
Although the consular services\' area is small yet it is neat and clean..The overall impression is really very good and satisfactory.

I was at the consulate for surrender certificate. I was upset because my OCI application, painfully prepared for returned and I am traveling to India on June 6th.
It was cold/rainy and crowded as usual. But the gentleman officer (Mukherjee?) had such fantastic calm, patient and helping attitude that it blew me. He worked shoulder to shoulder with staff who also seemed to imbibe the same attitude.

I am very thankful to and appreciate the staff at the consulate for their efficient and outstanding service provided to me for my passport renewal. This whole process of renewing your passport by mail may seem like a herculean task for an ordinary person and makes you feel anxious throughout the process, but the consulate made it so easy and simple.
The consulate\'s website provided clear and easy, step by step instructions, so I just walked through the process of application submission and sending them the necessary documents. In addition to this, the email follow-ups and prompt dispatch of the new passport was an exemplary service. Thanks a ton.

The email responses from your office were very prompt and very helpful during this process. I especially wanted to thank Mr Tajinder Singh and Mr Jaladhi Mukherjee in this regards. If you allowed people to come to the Consulate in person for OCI, I would definitely drive up there to convey my Thanks in person. I know you are exteremely busy with the heavy inflow of applications, which makes the fast processing all the more impressive. Overall, the Consulate service has been excellent, and definitely one of the best experiences I have had from any Government or Private organizations. I have also been to the Consulate a couple of times for Passport related work recently, and I continue to be impressed with the efficienty, courtesy and professionalism of CGISF staff. I want to place on record the EXCELLENT service I have got from the Indian Consulate OCI staff in San Francisco.
My OCI card was delivered to me in 4 weeks (including those of my family).
Any queries I raised were answered within 1 hour of posting or sending an email.

This is a level of service which far surpasses anything I have seen from ANY government body in India or the USA.
The service is PROMPT and reliable and I was totally WOWED by how you handled this from start to finish.

The staff was simply amazing, especially, MS. Aban. She realized that I am just a Ph.D student at UCLA, and she and the officials tried to see if there was anyway I could receive the new passport before I fly to India without paying the TATKAL. Unfortunately that was not possible, BUT the way they expressed concern and their intent to help the customers by going above and beyond their call of duty made me very very happy. I was very impressed by the professionalism and courtesy of the staff who received my application. I was very impressed by the professional nature and the efficiency of your staff.  They were firm with their rules about letting only the applicant into the space.  There was a young boy who was screaming and even though all of us can sympathize with the situation, it was very disruptive to the peace of the space.  I was appreciative when the staff was polite yet firm in letting the family know that only the applicant could be in the room.  I do understand that it is not easy to process the traffic that comes through on a daily basis but I have seen an amazing improvement in the proceedings at the consulate and I must congratulate you.  I was especially pleased that the Ladies rest room was very clean.

I wanted to send thank you note on behalf of my family for helping us in the difficult times. Unfortunately my mother passed away but I had chance to see her and talk to her because of the help from the Consulate to issue visa for me and my family at the right time.
I can never forget the day I visited the San Francisco Consulate. My visa was issued within 10 minutes after waiting for hours in the outsourcing place. Everyone at the consulate were so helpful who understood my situation and even helped us with the directions to reach airport during the heavy traffic hours. I really felt the same warmth that I would receive from my family back home which makes me want to go back to India as soon as possible.
You guys are awesome and please keep up the good work.

I and my wife had applied for our OCI registrations. It was a very smooth process and we are extremely pleased with the professional and timely handling of the process by your office. You were very fast with the processings. We got our OCI cards in exactly 3 calendar weeks after we sent the documents to your office!  
     Whenever we had a question, we got prompt response to our e-mail. Above all, on-line updates of status of each step in an extremely timely manner is very useful. That was very helpful in knowing the status of our applications at each and every step. This is our 3rd instance of availing services at Consulate General of India, San Francisco, and every time we have had a very pleasant experience.

We received the PIO card today for our daughter which I had applied on 12th Oct, 09 by post. I had written a couple of mails seeking early processing of the application. But, I was overwhelmed by the timely response of the embassy staff that not only processed the application within the scheduled number of days but also spared us with a few days to plan our trip better. I am highly indebted by this amazing response that I have received from the Embassy. It feels great and it is only reassuring that our country men are at par with the Americans when it comes to resolving the problems of their country men when they are in need. I am enthused to say that I feel proud to be an Indian and I see that your service has only made me more conscious of my duties as an Indian. Just to mention, we sent out the application on 12th Oct and received back the PIO card on 26th Oct by post which is less than the 15 working days as mentioned in the website.

I had the oppurtunity to visit your Consulate on 23rd Oct,09 I had two very important things to be done first Passport renewal and
second NAC,Certificate  both these were extremely important as I had to attend the USCIS.for my green card and the last date was 29th of Oct\'09.Though I was disabled yet I made an effort to go and visit your Consulate with my daughter Sameera Sani.and I must say and I acknowledge the extra ordinary brilliant and efficient work done by your Consulate An e-mail from you asking us to visit the Consulate Personally impressed me very much You have Proven that \"LEADERSHIP IS ACTION AND NOT POSTION\".We are amazed and

I just wanted to pass on my appreciation of the service I received at the consulate office today. (and honestly I'm NOT saying this only because my passport app made it through in the rush process).

The girls behind the counters displayed EXCELLENT customer service capabilities. In particular, the one that served me, and was at the pick up counter later on was friendly yet firm, displayed empathy for everyones situation, yet clarity and firmness in dealing problem resolution. There was nothing fake about her communication, it was sincere and with complete understanding!

I had to wait for a couple of hours due to my unique situation and I was observing everyone.  All staff were exemplary! The supervisor was as firm as necessary for his role, and reminded everyone of the fact that they are only here to help, we are all from India and should expect the same quality of service and courteousness on both sides, the people in the queue and the people behind the counters.

Yes I did get scolded, rightly so and yes there were a couple of people who were complaining, but I did point out to them that the service was considerably different than what i remember from a few years ago. Much better, much improved.

"This is the 3rd time I had to deal with consulate. For my passport renewal, my son's visa, PIO card. All my experiences have been very smooth. To all the people who bash Indian system and say American is better should just not generalize to all entites in our govt like that. You guys rock!. You are so understanding of any special needs (Even though my mail was with in the stipulated 2 week period I got a repsonse to my mail the very next day). It feels like there is an understanding person on the other side. My wife had her name printed wrong in American USCIS system for some reason (all documents were right) and they made us run to each office for 3 months and in the end took a personal favor from somebody to get this fixed even though no problem of ours. Thanks again for swift and timely response and issueance. I wish all our other govt entities are like our consulate..esp Air India who were never on time in all the 4 times i used and had to grudgingly move to a different airline."

I really appreciate admirable service provided by your OCI staff. I had applied for OCI Miscellaneous services for my son as his passport expired. It was processed really fast. My wife's mother was sick and is travelling tomorrow to india so needed the passport stamped. I sent mail to OCI on Friday once Visa was dispatched from delhi explaining the need to travel. Officer by name Ms. Ajanta called me right away in few minutes and asked me to come to consulate at 3 PM on Monday. I was greeted warmly by lady in the counter and asked to be seated. The stamping was taked care of in 20 minutes. We are extremely releived mentally and My wife and son are travelling to India this Monday.

Recently I applied for renewal of passsports for my son and myself. (USASI0XXXXXX and USASI0XXXXXX )
I would like to put on record amazing experience I had with your offices.
While the personal appointment was scheduled for 26-Feb (means I'm sure there is ample of load); we got our renewed passports received almost within a week including courier days. It was as if your offices is totally automated and hate to keep any inventory of pending applications. :)

With due respect, I would like to provide my feedback about San Francisco,CA consulate. I know most of times, people contact regarding complaint but I am sending this email to thanks your staff and specially Jaladhi Mukherjee. We were having serious administration issue from Regional passport office and even to Indian citizen , they decline to accept passport renewal application because last passport was issued at SFO. We were helpless and in between I thought to send email to Indian consulate at SFO. We got reply from Jaladhi Mukherjee and they provide all steps to move forward.
 
Though regional office did not check or look information provided from SFO Consulate and they asked us to go through long process but quick response from Jaladhi Mukherjee was very very helpful. We ,proud Indian citizen, want to say Thanks to your staff at Indian Consulate and specially Jaladhi Mukherjee. Information provided from them was enough for us to get some confidence.
 
Sometimes small help can be big for needy person and especially when we have to deal with officer.
